Volunteers are a valued and integral part of us. They enrich and enhance the life of the Gardens and play a vital role in supporting the Gardens. We understand everyone has different skill-sets and aspirations, hence varied positions are available for the volunteer spirit in you.
Tour Guiding
The Gardens runs free tours for the public. There are various tours conducted by our enthusiastic volunteer guides, where you may select one to focus on.

Gardening
Volunteers will have the opportunity to maintain an area in the Gardens. Presently, volunteers are working in our Plant Resource Centre.
As a Gardening Volunteer, you will be involved in preparing the ground, sowing of seeds, pruning, weeding, fertilising and composting to identifying the various plants and labelling them.
Available on 4th Saturday of the month
Herbarium
Volunteers can contribute at the Herbarium by repairing and mounting herbarium specimens. This involves stitching of specimens onto boards. A minimum of four hours (office hours) once a week is required.
Upon completing 10 hours of volunteer work, we will issue you with a Volunteer Pass and you will be entitled to the following benefits for a year:

• Lawn Maintenance: Keep our green spaces thriving and beautiful by supporting our horticulture team in various aspects of gardening such as weeding, watering, leaf litter application, pruning and fertilising
• Plant Record Keeping: Contribute to vital conservation data and botanical research
Specialist volunteer (New Volunteering Opportunity)
This volunteering opportunity invites you to work closely with medicinal and species of ethnobotanical importance, supporting their care while learning about their cultural uses and significance.
Whether you’re drawn to plant-people relationships, horticulture, or simply enjoy working with plants, this hands-on role offers a unique chance to deepen your knowledge and connect with nature in a purposeful way.
As a volunteer, you may be involved in:
• Plant care and maintenance – tending to the collections to keep them healthy and thriving
• Propagation – helping to grow and sustain valuable plant collections
• Garden upkeep – weeding, mulching, and maintaining a serene, restorative environment
• Plant documentation – supporting records that contribute to conservation and education
Available on weekdays only, weekly to fortnightly basis
