National Orchid Garden
The Singapore Botanic Gardens’ enduring love for orchids blossomed in the late 1800s. Today, this legacy lives on in a vibrant sanctuary where over 3,000 plants create a living masterpiece of colour and heritage.
About the National Orchid Garden
Cultivated since the late 1800s, the Singapore Botanic Gardens' orchid collection flourished under Henry Ridley, evolving from a modest orchid house in the 1870s into a dedicated nursery and orchid house in 1899 to meet growing demand.
Today, the National Orchid Garden is home to one of the largest and most impressive orchid collections in the world. First opened in 1995, it expanded in 2021 with the addition of the Tropical Montane Orchidetum (TMO), which adds a tropical highland touch by featuring species that thrive in cooler climates.
Thoughtfully designed to represent the four seasons — Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter — each section bursts with a riot of colours and shapes. In total, the National Orchid Garden is home to over 1,000 species and 2,000 hybrids of orchids.
